Consensus for Autism

As the number of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) rises rapidly to 1 in 110 children, or more than 29,000 children in Illinois alone, we as a society must find ways to overcome differences and work together to build common ground and access to evidence-based services.

There is no doubt that major, system level change is required to meet the complex needs of individuals with an ASD.  Also, there is  no doubt that the autism community has, at times, been paralyzed by destructive divisions related to the cause, treatment, and education for those diagnosed with an ASD.  A growing number of parents, providers, agencies, legislators and communities are embracing consensus as a fundamental and necessary step toward positive change.  TAP has developed the Consensus for Autism initiative as a critical first step toward improving services and supports for the autism community.
