How would you rate public awareness of autism spectrum disorders in the US? Which of the following do you believe to be the most important autism policy initiative currently being considered in the United States? In general, I believe our nation’s funding for autism spectrum disorders is…
In general, the American public has only limited awareness of autism spectrum disorders. Nationally-mandated insurance coverage for autism treatments. Woefully inadequate.
The American public has some awareness, but that awareness tends to be driven by stereotypes such as the movie “Rain Man.” Additional research into the causes of, and potential treatments for, autism. Could be improved – we need more public and private sector funding.
The American public seems well aware that autism is an important issue facing our nation, but has little idea of what can be done to help. Development of policies and programs to assist adults with autism. About correct –we are spending the proper amount on autism now.
The American public understands the issues posed by autism spectrum disorders and what can be done to help. Providing better access for persons with autism to transportation, government offices, museums, libraries, etc. We’re overspending – we need to cut back on our spending.
Additional use of Medicaid waivers to provide direct funding to parents for treatment and support.
Increased early diagnosis and intervention for young children with autism.
